Gender neutral? Not here.

Last night I went through my tubs (and tubs and tubs and tubs) of baby clothes.  I've got 2 boys and they've been pretty well-dressed little munchkins.  I wanted to see if anything in the buckets would work for baby girl to cut down (somewhat...) on what needed to be sewn, purchased, borrowed, thrifted, etc..  But as I went through the bucket saying, "Awwww!  I remember this outfit on Henry.  It was SO ADORABLE!" and "Oh, this was Eddie's going-home jumper," and stuff like that, I found very little I want to put on little girly.  Maybe it's because I've already had 2 boys and am ready for some glam 'round here, but I just don't have much interest in "gender neutral" clothing.  We do have a really sweet pair of footed sleepers with yellow duckies that someone bought for Eddie that she'll wear, partly because they are such amazing quality and still look brand new and partly because the Peter Pan collar is to die for cute.  There's also a newborn onesie or two with a little embroidered nursery rhyme animal on the front, and a couple of boyish t-shirts that I think will just look cute on the little stinker-girl (one baseball shirt with a piranha on it that was insane on Ed and a long-sleeved green robot t-shirt that Henry rocked and a Johnny Cash onesie in black that both boys looked awesome in and so will J.)

But the rest of the little baby boy clothes I either boxed back up in case we do this again and have a boy, or I separated into a couple piles for friends who are due to have little boys of their own in the next few weeks.

Now that I have an inventory of what can be re-used from the previous squirties, I can start assessing what exactly baby needs, what I want to make and what I want to shop for.

This little apron dress is at the TOP of my list to make.  A good friend of mine made similar dresses for her daughter in many sizes and many fabrics and I vowed to do the same thing if I ever was blessed with a little girl.

I didn't buy the diaper-cover pattern because our cloth diapers are already so cute AND I have a free diaper-cover tutorial already bookmarked that I think I can make my own ruffles for.  I'm planning to make a few of these swingy apron tops and diaper covers out of the same Anna Maria Horner LouLouThi fabric that I'm doing the baby room in.  Lots of sewing for me in the next 5 months!
