Eddie had his 2 year well-baby check-up at the doc today. Her name is Dr. Perreira, Eddie calls her, "Dr. Bella." So cute. He remains fit as a fiddle, spry, energetic, 70th percentile in weight, 90th in height and cute as a bug's ear. Oh, that last thing was not measured by the doctor and was simply an assessment by this completely biased Mommy. (Though he did receive a complement from "Dr. Bella" on his luxuriously long and curly hair.) :)
While waiting in the super fabu waiting room at the doc's office, Eddie struck up a convo with another 2 year old boy. They gazed at the bright neon fishes in the fish tanks, talked about trains and toy cars and various other things. Then Eddie spied that the boy had a little sister and lost ALL interest in his new buddy. Eddie squatted down onto his knees and sat staring into the baby bucket/car carrier thing with all the patience and bedside manner of Mother Theresa. He wasn't loud, wasn't fast, didn't touch her. He just sat there with his chubby little hands on his knees staring at her and every now and then saying, "Awwwww.....cute!" Her mama seemed to think Eddie was pretty cute, too. I asked how old the baby was (I couldn't see her since the bucket thing was turned away from me) and was surprised to hear the mama say 11 months. I never have liked carrying my kiddos in one of those things anyway, (Yeah babywearing!) but definitely did not pack my heavy babies around in them past about 3 months old. But obviously to each his own.
Then the baby made a teeny tiny squeaky noise. I don't think she cried or was upset, but again I couldn't see her face. Eddie had asked, "Kiss baby?" and the girl's mama said he could and he gave her a kiss on the cheek or forehead or maybe even square on the lips...I don't know. The big brother seemed annoyed to have lost his playmate, but was as enchanted by the fish tank as Ed was with Malia. While Eddie kissed the baby (I think he's going to be a politician...charming, a bit outlandish, and with ALL the smooth moves of a polished yes-man...) the mama dug a huge like 12 oz. or something bottle out of her bag and tried to stick it in the baby's mouth. Eddie never had a bottle in his life and looked at the thing with SUCH a strange expression. He looked at the baby with his head cocked to the side as she repeatedly spit it out and he finally turned to her mama and said, "What dat?" The mother looked at me and then to him and said, "It's a bottle. With her milk in it." And GUESS WHAT MY 2 YEAR OLD SAID?
"No Mommy Mook???" and grabbed his own chest. I love him.

Ok why on earth was that baby in a carrier. How sad it can't see the world. Yes I agree my 11m old is worn all the time. He is happier that way when running errands. He cries in the buggy. As for a bottle. It too warms my heart when my daughter asks if she can feed the baby too (and lifts her shirt) haha
The best breast feeding advocates are those little bebays who finish nursing on a plane, on a train or in a mall, with a bright smile and a lovely little burp for us! Great story, thank you for sharing!
Cute!cutecute! Do you know if you're having a boy or girl yet? If you don't know yet ask your kids what they think. Both my boys said I was going to have a girl, and they were right! They just "knew" :)
LOVE this!! My girls try to see if they can nurse their brother (at 17 months! He barely stays still for me. ha!). I love these little breastfeeding advocates we're making!
