As if it weren't already easy enough to make this pregnant woman cry, my kids seem to be on a mission to see how many times a day they can cause water to fall happily from my eyes. I know they are still a bit young for plotting against their Mama, but I sort of can imagine them upstairs in Henry's room, sitting under a fort made of blankets, lighting their faces up with flashlights, and giggling about how easy it is to "get" Mama these days.
They are awfully cute, you know.
Anywhoosie, lately Henry has really taken great leaps in his doodling. Just a month ago if he sat down with pencil (or way back then it was more likely to be crayon) and paper, he'd scribble a few circles and maybe make some attempts at a couple of the letters he knows. He'd make large marks across the paper and tell me that they were dinosaurs or cars or a house or whatever, but I couldn't "see" it beyond the way moms say, "Oh! I see! It's wonderful." And of course it is wonderful, but I just never saw a dinosaur or car or house.
But now he sits down with pencil (his sketching tool of choice now that he's a "grown-up artist") and REALLY draws what he's telling me he's drawing. And when he shows me the picture, I can completely SEE what it is. Rocket ships, trucks, spiders, and our family are his favorite subjects. Which brings me to my tears. Yesterday he said he was going to draw a new picture and when he brought it to me he said, "See! This one is of you, Mama! And there's the baby in your belly and I drew you with really long curly hair because I think that when you grow a baby in your belly you also grow really long pretty hair." Okay, so the hair bit may have been a bit of a slam or opinion on my current short hairstyle, but the fact that he drew a picture of me with our new baby in my belly just got me. So sweet.
Today Eddie and I were sitting on the sofa snuggling after he took the very briefest of afternoon naps. Big brother was still napping and we were enjoying some quiet together time. All of the sudden he sat up from my lap and turned around to face me. He rubbed my cheek with his chubby little hand and then planted a big, juicy kiss right on my lips! Then without a word he turned back around and got himself re-settled into my lap.
Gushes. I sure love these fellas.
